Anna Hawkes

Senior Caseworker/Supervisor

A Swedish national, Anna is a law graduate of Sweden’s top-ranked Lund University. She moved to the UK in 2000 where she graduated from Essex University with an LL.M. in European Union Law.

Before joining Lupins in 2006, Anna worked as a legal consultant in Moscow for the UNHCR on international refugee law as well for the Russia Justice Initiative, preparing claims by Russian nationals to the European Court of Human Rights.

With over 12 years of experience, Anna is one of our most experienced and knowledgeable caseworkers.  She has a wide ranging practice in immigration, asylum and nationality law. She has extensive experience representing foreign national prisoners, trauma victims and those suffering severe mental health problems.  Anna is frequently instructed by Local Authorities in relation to children in their care with immigration and citizenship problems.

Always up for a challenge, Anna has succeeded in many cases where clients have secured a legal basis to remain after many years of uncertainty. She recently represented an Iranian woman who had come to the UK in 1996 and had been refused asylum. Her fresh asylum applications had also failed but Anna recognised the woman’s mental health issues and, having commissioned expert medical evidence, her asylum appeal was allowed.

Anna has particular interest and experience in complex EU/EEA law cases; she has successfully obtained residency and permanent residency for EEA clients and their family members.
